When too much gross is barely enough

Good Friday...

So there we were, just settling into the first day of my glorious 4 day Easter weekend. Ian and I go out for a late indulgey brekky at McGill Pizza (they do a cracker Montreal breakfast for $3.95. Rawk.). I get home, well sated, then begin to feel a little seamy... BAM!

Cut to 6 days later...

Oh the humanity! It was awful. A wretched kaleidoscope of gastroenterital fury. I haven't been that sick and sorry in a LONG time. Actually, it was a bit of a worry - I couldn't eat for 3 days and I'm as weak as a kitten. I hate feeling so drained and puny... but on the upside, I've lost like five pounds (note - heavy sarcasm optional). I tried my first food tonight and it's staying down a treat - never know my luck, eh? :D The other bugger is I've missed out on a week of work, so I'm stuffed for cash too. Damn you, stomach!!! *shakes fist*

Monday Photo - Food of the Quebecer Gods

It's deep fried chips. It's spicy gravy. It's cheese curds. It looks like dog vomit. It's POUTINE - possibly the most evil and delicious food in the world. It's basically the national dish of Quebec (yeah, national - just ask the separatists) and accounts for aaproximately 47% of my thighs. Damn.

Monday Photo - Last of the snow

I took this in Parc Jean-Drapeau, on the way up the hill to go tobogganing - the park overlooks the St-Laurent River and the city. C'est une très belle vue (Ooh la lahhh! :D). This is (almost) the last of the snow in Montreal! *sob*

Gym bunny. Not.

I am so proud of myself! I just had a full scary fitness appraisal at the gym - height, weight, heartrate, flexibility, the scary fat pinchy tongs, everything! ohmy.gif It was hard to put myself on the line like that as I'm really flabby and unfit, but it wasn't too bad at all (except where I was supposed to try to do 10 pushups (the easy kind) - and I couldn't even do one!!! Mortifying!!). It went for like 2 hours and I got a whole weights programme and cardio plan tailored to me by my faboo trainer Georgia (btw, if you ever get a personal trainer at the McGill gym, get her - she's very professional but friendly). I'm having another appraisal in three months, so now I'm committed to getting fit and strong! Huzzah for meeeeee!!

What the place looks like

The gym looks pretty schmick and really well equipped - with fucking skinny little 19 year old blonde girls with high ponytails and low-rise gym pants. Goddammit. But I don't give a rat's - I'm there for purely selfish reasons. This time I'm determined to force myself into taking classes too (inc. pilates, which I hear is a bitch!), at least twice a week. We'll see how long this lasts, but I'm pretty motivated right now! Wish me luck! :D

People suck.

You wanna know what i hate? People who let you down. People who commit to being somewhere, and then blow you off without any notice at all. Without even bothering to call. We were supposed to have a poker night at our place tonight. I cancelled out on going dancing, we cleaned the house and bought snacks etc... Ian calls to confirm with the guys and they go "Ah, nah dude, we're going to a concert now - we might be there at like, midnight, if we come at all.". Were they even going to call and let us know this or just let us sit here all night and wonder? And they call themselves friends. People fucking suck.

And what the hell is the story with 'the guy code'? The rule that says you can make a plan with your buddy, but if he cancels in a callous and couldn't-give-a-shit way you can't make a peep of protest or else you are labelled a whiney bitch and are never asked out again. I'll pay that for girls - at least we can say "WTF? That was a really shit thing to do.". Guys suck. GRRRRRR!!!!!

Okay, I feel a tiny bit better now.

Quiz meh

So I was bored, okay? Take this quiz to see how well you know my dull miscellany. Like, you know, if you could be arsed.

Take my Quiz. If you want. Meh.

Bustin' my ass

For someone who's supposed to be keeping a blog, DAMN I've been slack about writing anything about my actual life!

Work is going okay - I'm absolutely busting my ASS at this job. Yesterday a new girl started, and she said, "Oh, right - you're the cook.". I was like "God no!", but to my horror I realised she was actually right - I guess I am The Cook. Lame. Although, it's really not that bad... basically my job involves cooking granola ie muesli (yesterday we made a yummy maple, apple and raisin one), making bar mix and cleaning my area... The suckiest things about the jobs are the lifting of big heavy bags of shit (note - not actual shit :D), the cleaning of the oven, and the heat (I've earned a couple of nasty little burns already <_<). The upsides are that I can just work on my own steam, I can take my breaks when I like, and I'm actually earning some frickin' money! But I tells ya, nothing motivates you to practice the horn and get a damn orchestral job like cleaning an industrial oven. *guhhh* I'm working Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (starting at 7:30am - ugh.) so at least I still have time for practice and a LIFE (just).

As far as the horn goes, I'm getting back into practice in a big way, and things are shaping up pretty well. There are a lot of auditions coming up in the area in the next six months. Bugger is a lot of them (esp. in the US) require a working visa to even audition, which sucks. The gig scene in Montreal really bites - if you're not a native French speaker you can forget it. It's totally unfair, but what can you do? I've decided that by the end of April I'm going to be seriously ready to start auditioning anyway, and with no fear. This is my last chance and I ain't going to blow it, baby! :D

In other news, I've finally joined the Uni gym (go cheap membership with my still-valid student card!). I bit the bullet and booked a personal fitness appraisal and training sesh with one of the instructors at the gym on Sunday. I'm such a slug and SO unfit... I'm just dying to get strong and become a kick-ass chick (Cara knows what I'm talkin' about here!). Chyah!

Before -

After -

So what else? Ian is doing fine - he's playing first in the Verdi Requiem with the McGill Symphony soon (I'm mega-proud) and suffering through the non-performance stuff at uni. We're planning on going to Pointe-Claire (lovely area in the far west of Montreal island) tomorrow for lunch at a little pub he knows. We're planning on a trip to Quebec City soon, too. :)

So that's about it for my boring update - more later, if you can handle it! *snore*

Photos on the web!

I've bitten the bullet and bought a damn memory card reader for my digital camera, so I've finally put all my photos from the past three months online! They're all linked up here. You can always see them by clicking on the 'All My Photos' link on the left - that'll be there like, you know, forever! Yoik!

They'll be updated regularly, too. Sweet!

Monday Photo - The Mask

Give a kid a new toy... Scary Chris Harm frightens the little children (ie Me) just before I leave Adelaide. And I'm supposed to be homesick after seeing THAT?
