Bustin' my ass
Work is going okay - I'm absolutely busting my ASS at this job. Yesterday a new girl started, and she said, "Oh, right - you're the cook.". I was like "God no!", but to my horror I realised she was actually right - I guess I am The Cook. Lame. Although, it's really not that bad... basically my job involves cooking granola ie muesli (yesterday we made a yummy maple, apple and raisin one), making bar mix and cleaning my area... The suckiest things about the jobs are the lifting of big heavy bags of shit (note - not actual shit :D), the cleaning of the oven, and the heat (I've earned a couple of nasty little burns already <_<). The upsides are that I can just work on my own steam, I can take my breaks when I like, and I'm actually earning some frickin' money! But I tells ya, nothing motivates you to practice the horn and get a damn orchestral job like cleaning an industrial oven. *guhhh* I'm working Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (starting at 7:30am - ugh.) so at least I still have time for practice and a LIFE (just).
As far as the horn goes, I'm getting back into practice in a big way, and things are shaping up pretty well. There are a lot of auditions coming up in the area in the next six months. Bugger is a lot of them (esp. in the US) require a working visa to even audition, which sucks. The gig scene in Montreal really bites - if you're not a native French speaker you can forget it. It's totally unfair, but what can you do? I've decided that by the end of April I'm going to be seriously ready to start auditioning anyway, and with no fear. This is my last chance and I ain't going to blow it, baby! :D
In other news, I've finally joined the Uni gym (go cheap membership with my still-valid student card!). I bit the bullet and booked a personal fitness appraisal and training sesh with one of the instructors at the gym on Sunday. I'm such a slug and SO unfit... I'm just dying to get strong and become a kick-ass chick (Cara knows what I'm talkin' about here!). Chyah!
Before -
After -
So what else? Ian is doing fine - he's playing first in the Verdi Requiem with the McGill Symphony soon (I'm mega-proud) and suffering through the non-performance stuff at uni. We're planning on going to Pointe-Claire (lovely area in the far west of Montreal island) tomorrow for lunch at a little pub he knows. We're planning on a trip to Quebec City soon, too. :)
So that's about it for my boring update - more later, if you can handle it! *snore*
